Pure Love. John 3:16
Counseling for your heart, mind, body and soul.

January 1, 2022

My practice will close on August 1, 2022 and I will fully retire from the counseling profession.  I will serve current, active clients until they conclude therapy, transition to a new therapist, or August 1, whichever comes first.

Update: After June 1, I will not be able to schedule appointments for former clients unless it is for a one-time termination session, due to very limited availability and the short amount of time before retiring.  Please contact the referral resources I provided to you. You are welcome to call me before August 1 if you have questions about the referrals.  NOTE: After August 1, I will not be available for any counseling-related matters other than if you need something from your file.

For over 22 years, counseling clients has been a privilege and great joy, and I am honored that I was allowed to be a part of so many lives.

With my care and respect,
Kathy Riesmeyer

Information for current/former clients:
Record Retention:   Files will be maintained in a secure location until their destruction date, following federal and state laws and professional rules and ethics which are in effect for Licensed Professional Counselors in the State of Missouri.

Contact Information:  I will maintain my phone number.  If you need information from your file, please call me at 314-303-2937.  My email address, kathy@riesmeyercounseling.com will permanently close August 31, 2022.

Your privacy:  St. Louis can be a ‘small’ town.  The current practice is if we happen to cross paths, that I do not approach or acknowledge you.  If you approach me, I am happy to speak with you.  If I am with someone at the time you approach, I will continue to maintain your privacy and not introduce you to whomever I am with.  I don’t want to appear inconsiderate if this occurs; it is simply a continuation of my promise to you to maintain your privacy.   This practice will continue after August 1, 2022.

Referral Resources:
Beyond the referrals that were provided to active or recently active clients, following are ways to search for a new therapist.

Psychology Today    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us
Psychology Today is one database many use to find a therapist. Click on Find a Therapist, type in your zip code. Above the list of therapists you will see buttons that say Issues, Insurance, Gender etc. Click on Insurance and select your insurance carrier (if you choose to use insurance). Then click on Issues and select what you are wanting to address (anxiety, depression, grief etc.) or leave this blank.  If you prefer a male or female therapist, click Gender and select. If you want a particular faith, click More and it will give you a drop down menu to select a faith tradition. You will likely find many therapists who say they treat a particular issue, or who say they serve those who are of a particular faith.  Use due diligence to read their profile, then go to their website and read the content to determine if they are a possible good fit.  If you read information that doesn’t fit your value system, then move on to the next profile.  You may need to make an appointment and meet the person to determine if they may be a good fit for you.  It may take you meeting several different therapists until you find a good fit - don't give up!  It is important that you find someone who makes you feel comfortable and has the clinical skills you need.

There are other therapist finder websites, however, many of those don’t have the level of search features and many are geared toward therapists who do not take insurance.

Other Search Options:
  • Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card, ask them to provide you a list of therapists in the area you need (example, give your zip code and ask they do a search within 5 -15 miles of that zip code, or less if you prefer).  If you prefer a therapist with a particular faith, you can request that as a search feature, also if you want an EMDR therapist, specialist in OCD etc.
  • Search professional associations for therapists specializing in a treatment method (EMDR, EFT, SE etc.) or a particular mental health issue (depression, anxiety, OCD etc.)
  • Contact your pastor/priest/faith leader to see to whom they refer.
  • Contact your medical provider(s) and see if they have a referral list.
  • Ask friends or family if they have a therapist they’ve used and liked.

If you are having thoughts about killing yourself or someone else, please call Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or Behavioral Health Response at 314-469-6644. If you are in imminent danger of acting on these thoughts this is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY, and you should immediately call 911 and ask for emergency medical assistance, or go to your nearest hospital emergency room.
